Nearly sixteen years ago I had my second daughter and was told I could not have any more children. Fifteen years later after spending all my time on my career I married my new husband, who had never had children of his own and was also told that he was unable to have them. So we were very surprised to discover that in the beginning of 2006 I was pregnant. We went on to have a gorgeous little boy who was born six weeks premature.

 

Several things happened... One, I lost my job, making it hard to budget. Two, I found I could not purchase premature baby clothes unless I spent lots of money and three, I realized how much the prices of baby equipment had risen since I last purchased it.

 

At this rate I would need a small mortgage to pay for the items I needed for our new son....

 

And So It Began

 

Using all my commercial training I started checking prices. I discovered that most high street suppliers operated on a 600% mark up.

 

In my research I uncovered a great source of recycled clothing and baby items; I found I could get much more for my money.

 

I also discovered a source of reconditioned and factory seconds. These were of good quality, with just a few minor imperfections.

 

For Example, my son’s factory second Cot Bed retailed at £289.00. I got it for £60.00 because a bolt was missing.

 

A quick trip to the DIY Store and for 80 pence I was able to replace it.
